Founded in 2009, AMP Futures provides traders with ultra-cheap commissions, super-low margins, excellent 24-hour customer service, and a huge selection of 50+ trading platforms. The company is regulated by the National Futures Association (NFA) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). AMP Futures has also a legal entity based in the EU called AMP Global (Europe), which provides CFD, forex and futures trading and is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). In this review, we focus on the US-based entity AMP Futures and its services, that does everything you would want from a futures broker for very low commission rates.

Summary

AMP Futures provide an industry leading brokerage service that is accessible to everyone. The fees are very reasonable and execution speeds reliable. You can access an excellent range of markets for trading online via some of the best trading platforms that the industry had to offer. Most importantly their customer support team is very responsive and resolve issues quickly. I am impressed that the broker will beat or match any other commission quote or give you commission free trades. This is not something that I have seen from many other brokers and can help to ensure that you get access to some of the best prices on the market. AMP Futures provides cheap, fast and reliable data feeds and trading routes. The minimum account balance required to maintain a live data connection is $100 which is very reasonable when you consider some brokers require a balance into the thousands.

AMP Global Group Overview

AMP Global Clearing is a Chicago-based Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) providing access to the global electronic futures markets for individual traders, introducing brokerages, CTAs, 3rd parties and API developers. A futures commission merchant (FCM) is an entity that solicits or accepts orders to buy or sell futures contracts, options on futures, retail off-exchange forex contracts or swaps, and accepts money or other assets from customers to support such orders. AMP utilizes CQG, TTnet and Rithmic technology providing Direct Market Access to more than 40 exchanges through the worldwide network of collocated Hosted Exchange Gateways.

When it comes to choosing a brokerage firm, regulation is one of the most important things to look at for. I would always prefer to use a regulated broker as they must follow rules and procedures to ensure that are operating in an honest and transparent manner. AMP Global (USA) is a licensed future clearing merchant (FCM) under the supervision of the National Futures Association (NFA) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). AMP Global (Europe) is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). I personally consider this to be top-tier regulation and would therefore have no problem trusting them for my day trading activities.

Countries

AMP Futures caters for US traders. If you are looking for a USA broker then they can be a great choice. If you are located outside of the USA then you can take a look at AMP Global instead. Please also feel free to browse our broker ratings for some alternative options.

Platforms

When it comes to trading platforms, it is hard to beat AMP Futures. The broker offers you a fantastic selection of 50+ trading platforms, some are free and some charge a fee. There are platforms suitable for beginners and platforms for professional traders who run demanding strategies and need access to the best tools and connectivity in the market. If you are unsure what platform to use, you can compare a selection of the platforms below to help you choose the best trading platform for your needs. I think the selection may be overwhelming for beginners. If you are new to trading then from my experience, I would say the MetaTrader 5 platform is a very good place to start. It is user-friendly and has all of the tools you need for analysing the markets, placing and managing trades.

In this section enter the username and password your broker provided and select “Live Trading” to enable your Barchart Trader account with live futures trading.

Tools

The platforms you can access through AMP Futures are absolutely loaded with more tools than most traders would ever need access to. I don’t think anyone would get the time to go through and test them all. Regardless of how simple or complex you want your trading strategies to be, you can take advantage of the huge selection of trading tools to develop and test your own manual and automated systems. If there is a trading strategy idea that you can think of, there is a very high chance it can be built within the provided platforms. Therefore, I wouldn’t expect the broker to need to provide traders with any standalone tools.

Education

AMP Futures could be a great choice for beginners as they have lots of educational content including comprehensive trading guides and tutorial videos. Whether you are a new or an advanced trader, they will help you to understand the basics of futures trading so that you have the required skills and knowledge in place to help reach your trading goals. However, some of the platforms are very complex so you will need to make sure that you are prepared to put the time and effort into the learning how to get the most out of them.

I really like that AMP Futures has a welcoming community where you can find and share trading ideas and solutions with AMP fellow traders around the world. This is not something that you see with many brokers and shows that AMP bring a more personalised approached.

There is a large selection of financial instruments for everyone to create a diversified portfolio, regardless of your interests. AMP Futures offers a fantastic range of over a 100 regulated futures contracts which means that all the popular futures markets can be traded on the following futures exchanges:

• New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX and COMEX)

Accounts

The AMP Futures account requires a minimum deposit of $100 to open. The account process is all done online but is not as straightforward as some other brokers. There are a few different account types that are based on ownership:

• Individual – account is owned by an individual
• Joint – account is owned by two or more individuals
• Corporate / LLC / Partnership – account is owned by a legal entity

Support

The broker has excellent customer service, with your satisfaction being their top priority. AMP Futures invest heavily in training their support staff to meet client expectations of market and technical knowledge. The broker is committed to creating open and accessible support for all customers. All of the agents are trained to answer your questions about your account and all of the available trading platforms. The tech support and trade desk provide 24-hour assistance via email, phone and live chat. In addition, you will find a several help options available that provide quick and effective access to the information needed.

Funding

You can only fund your AMP Futures account using wire transfer, ACH or check. This does mean that you may be waiting around at least a few days for funds to clear. I think they could improve by adding support for some more modern forms of payment such as digital wallets. This would help to speed up to account funding process and be more convenient for some users such as myself. I don’t always want to wait around days for a bank transfer to clear as there may be some market news that I want to quickly try and capitalise on. That being said, I can appreciate the security that bank transfers provide over some other forms of payment.

Conclusion

Overall, I am extremely impressed with many aspects of AMP Futures, primarily the fantastic selection of trading platforms they have for you to choose from. These professional and powerful platforms can meet the demands of retail, professional and institutional traders alike. The broker also has excellent trading conditions and will match or beat other brokers in terms of commission fees. There is a good amount od educational content but I do feel some of the products and features may be slightly overwhelming for the average retail trader. I would also like to see some more payment options but that isn’t really a deal breaker at all.
