Launch of ValueGurus portfolio by eToro
ValueGurus, a portfolio offering access to the “best buys,” as determined by top value investors, is a product of online broker eToro.
As a substitute for the present overabundance of social media content about what to “purchase,” eToro developed a portfolio based on the investing preferences of real-world financial leaders and business influencers. By examining the 13F filings of some of the top mutual and hedge funds, like Baupost Group and ValueAct Capital, eToro analysed their most popular purchases and recorded their top positions in ValueGurus.
“We are seeing an increasing amount of financial content on Twitter and other social channels on what is a ‘buy’. In an effort to help retail investors make more informed investment decisions, we wanted to introduce them to a credible, publicly available tool that can be taken into consideration when making investment decisions,” explained Dani Brinker, Head of Investment Portfolios at eToro.
The first portfolio consisted of 10 firms, including Google, Mastercard, and Fiserv, with an average weighted market size of about $415 billion USD. After 13F filings are updated, the portfolio will be rebalanced every quarter. It uses an automatic, back-tested technique, and there is no discretion in selecting assets.
“13F filings are a great financial tool as they provide additional transparency on the portfolio composition and the stocks chosen by the leading mutual and hedge funds. To help our users invest like them, we used 13F data to create a fully managed portfolio that provides them exposure to what the best in finance are buying.”
ValueGurus joins eToro’s current selection of portfolios that replicate the investment approaches of well-known business figures Carl Ichan, Edgar Wachenheim, and Warren Buffett.
Investors can access several market topics with eToro’s Smart Portfolios. eToro’s Smart Portfolios are long-term investing solutions that provide diversified exposure with no management fees by grouping together various assets under a predetermined framework and using a passive investment technique.
Investors can use tools and charts to track the performance of their portfolios, and eToro’s social feed will keep them informed of market events. Initial investments begin at USD $500. For the time being, US users cannot access this portfolio.
